Software Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.
The workshop will take place on Thursday and Friday 28-29 June 2018 before the 2018 Winter School in Mathematical & Computational Biology. Winter School attendees will get first chance to buy tickets which will be priced at $60 to cover room hire and catering. Morning and afternoon teas will be provided on both days. The workshop will take place on the St Lucia campus.
We will cover the Unix shell (introduction to the command line and task automation), version control with Git, and the use of R for scientific computing (we will be using RStudio).
