The benefits of collaboration for bioinformatic tool development – Gabriel Foley

Bioinformatics is a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative field and bioinformatic tool development should reflect this. In this talk, I explore the process of developing several phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis tools to highlight the benefits and potential pitfalls of collaborative development. There is a particular focus on the need to address user’s actual desires, the need to develop intuitive user interfaces, and the benefits for bioinformatic research in making it more accessible and robust.
